This is a second resource (first one Atomic Bomb) that I have made for a year 9 SOLbut can also be used for GCSE. It would take 2x1 hour lessons to deliver. The first hour is about the situation in 1945 in Europe and an introduction to ideologies, The students are required to demonstrate their understanding of communism and capitalism through matching statements and images to the correct ideologies. The second hour is a differentiated empathy game where the students take on the roles of characters in the USA and USSR and discuss their situation with each other filling in a grid as they go. This is the first lesson of a sequence of A Level lessons on the presidency of JFK. It focuses on the 1960 US election, and considers the key issues which led to the outcome as required by the A Level specification. It contains the relevant tasks and resources for students. This lesson was made for AQA The American Dream, however can be used for any A level unit about the Presidency of JFK.

This resource focuses on explaining capitalism and communism through role play. Students are each given a character from either 1945 USSR or USA with information about their situation. They have to interview each other and record their results on a grid. They then use the grid to write an extended piece of evaluative writing - structure included to help students who require support. I have found this very useful to help students understand from the perspective of others in a fun way. The resource contains a short Power Point with instructions; colour-coded differentiated characters; and a grid to record findings.

This is an A Level lesson on the 1952 US Presidential Election. It would take about 3 hours to teach and is suitable for the first lesson on Eisenhower for the American Dream Unit. It is also suitable for A Level Politics as it focuses quite closely on the American electoral system.

This is the TENTH and last lesson on the constitution in the A Level scheme of work US government and politics, and it focuses on comparative politics - comparing the US and UK constitutions, and introduces students to the different approaches to comparative politics. Students complete their research on making comparisons, and wite a section 1 style answe, they are then introduced to the three approaches to comparative approaches and the criterion for a Section 2 answer, with the opportunity to complete one.
